What fucking moronic design by MF that they didn’t simply use different connectors for different outlets - there’s ony about a million choices!
Thanks - much appreciated.
I can see that the original connector has been removed from the lead coming from the amp, so I’d need to identify, acquire and fit a replacement in order to connect the Triple-x, but that doesn’t seem like a lot of faff.
If it doesn’t work out, I can still return the amp.
Triple x powers up but I’ve got no load with which to test it.
PM me your address and I’ll get it in the post tomorrow.
The manual is there and the amp connector is a 6 pin DIN but it doesn’t show the pin out.
I’m sure you can get the info somewhere.
X.
Thanks again. I’ll pm you in a minute.
Cheers
A bit of hasty DIY reveals that the PSU (tatty though it is) is functional, as is the amp (removing the lid indicates that the internals are unmolested).
Alan’s kind offer of a triple-x psu will make the whole setup complete - almost.
I will still need to identify the odd-looking 6 pin connector required to connect the amp to the psu, acquire one and wire it correctly. Haven’t found any useful info on the web, so we’ll see how that goes.
Haha, annoyingly excellent aren’t they?
Many years ago I had a set of original WE300A that F-i-L had found at a Ham radio rally for £10. I’d have liked to compare those with these.
You’ll be able to afford a set when you get your car finance thingy payout
Windfalls are us…
Alan’s PSU arrived this morning (thanks again, Alan). He included the end of the cable from an MF CDP that was also compatible with the PSU. Looking at the way the wires are soldered to the plug, it’s going to be a bastard of a job for a hamfist like me, and the amp connector has six pins (the CDP one having only five).
I’ve had a response from Henley Designs (who apparently handle this sort of stuff for MF), saying they are looking into my enquiry about the correct connector for the amp.
Still early days, but all seems promising…
They are around £2000 for a pair are they not?
What sort of life expectancy can you expect from these?
I shall find out a price to get some via Aurorasound. No idea on projected longevity or warranty though. I’d imagine Kevin Scott would have some knowledge, he’s been supplying them for a while.
I need two pairs which has effectively made them lottery win only
Which ones do you use currently?
Sort of couldn’t resist the one on pfm when the price dropped to 80 quid. Will try it into the XLR input on the DAC Box RS (not currently used elsewhere) and see what it is like.
Lovely amps.
Nice, wish I never got rid of mine
