The biggest problem with all this is I think that she may be on to something, and is now eating its way into my brain which is trying to figure out if it can be done.

Give it a try. It’s a win win.

Worst case scenario it’s a waste of time and it all gets put back into its current configuration but you get brownie points with Hel for having embraced her ideas and for trying to implement them.

Best case scenario is you end up with a layout that works better for both of you. You have a nicer listening room and a happy wife.

Well yes but given the similar footprint of the basement it would be an expensive way of getting a less good version of the room
I have now (lower ceiling, reduced natural light and view etc).

Also despite Hel offering her ideas and tweaks, this is my man cave - we use the other reception room for lounging and watching tv etc so I get pretty much free rein.

The annoying thing is, I think she’s right, it would be better the way she’s suggested.

With my Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen hat on,I’d lose the single chair,move the g plan sideboard and get a made to measure type bench put in the bay with open lid storage.
