Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today V1.2

How much? My BiL sobbed when I replaced my Bergmann, he’d love that.

Is the arm air fed?

About £10k I think.

No; it’s entirely friction based which works suprisingly well.

Time to cue up lots of classical to test end of side distortion then (the Karajan Shostakovich 10 on DG is a particular test for that one at the end of side 1)?

Being wholly more cretinous in my preferences, I’ve used the 2008 pressing of UNKLE’s War Stories which buries Keys to the Kingdom at the end of a long side A. It’s comfortably the best it’s ever sounded.

That puts it up against the Bergmann Magne which has an air bearing platter and air fed linear arm - hmm that might be a tough sell to convince a buyer away from what on paper looks a better option?

The Sindre I had was excellent and I can’t say I ever found the end of side concerns to be an issue whatsoever.

What end of side concerns are there? End of side has always been a perceived strength of a linear tracker.

The £10k price on this is inclusive of a £3,600 cart while the Magne is £9,500 less cart so it’s not really competing in the same space.

You’d have to direct that question to someone who suggests there would be, as I agree one of the benefits alongside being designed to eliminate tracking errors, is the relative improvement in this at the end of a side compared to a pivot, hence saying I never found any issues with mine.

That is the whole package, TT, arm, and cartridge?

Yes. Also includes upgraded PSU and smart* turntable hat.

*not as smart as this magnificent, if unfortunately named bastard mind;

Yours for only £500

Which is Shun Mook’s office tea budget.

Bastard, I missed out on War Stories on Vinyl when I think HMV had it on sale at ~£15-20 in around 2012 and I bought the CD but not the LP. It’s well out of my price range now!

Edited - for memory correction.

Very impressed by these, just plonked straight in and sounding really wonderful.
David Wright single ended EL34s under the brand VRR (vintage radio restoration I think) made in Worthing so not far away.

Lids were off in case something went pop on first turn on.

I might be getting carried away now, but this is the best amp I have had in years in my system. Excited for these to go with the MEHs when I get around to them

I once had a pair of these amps on trial at home from a hifi colleague - they were really nice .
He got them directly from David but going forward I found there may have been payment concerns IIRC they were more of a light blue colour with the gold stripe. It was 25 years ago but I think they were named Adurs -

Not one I have heard of, think he had an integrated called Ikon. But there isn’t much info around on his stuff.
I have heard some higher end stuff he has custom made in my recent times but those are one offs as far as I am aware.

No problem at all, glad you like it, be interesting to hear how it compares to your other one once you get it fixed up

I had an Ikon for a while was around 5w
