Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today

When they’re bad they’re a burdensome waste of space. But when they’re good they can be very, very good. Working for the government I had to manage my own projects. But I met a few of the Vodafone ones via Mrs VB (IIRC every single time they were in a group of drinkers in a pub). The good ones were very smart indeed and she spoke very highly of them. Mind, they were on the same sort of reward packages as the marketing people, which is saying something.

VB

They must have been the ex C&W ones as Vodafone are an utter pile of incompetent shite.

That was then and this is now. Mrs VB was with them for 25 years. For almost all that time the project delivery in her area tended to go well - on time and up to quality (in part, at least, because money wasn’t stupidly tight). Then the outsourcing started.

Aww, cheers Bob

C&W are really crap. We had to remove them as a supplier and they were terrible at fixing things.

Titan back in da house :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s your pension sorted then

David at Goldring did the work -

  • Replaced the cantilever and diamond with a new Gyger Ruby S fine line
  • Replaced the armature with a cross coil
  • Replaced the tie-wire assembly/suspension with new
  • Clean & run full operating tests

Only played two sides of an LP so far but it clearly works and will look forward to hearing it improve over the next couple of days.

It’s handy having someone in the UK who can undertake this kind of work competently and for a reasonable price. He seems like a genuinely nice chap aswell.

Yep spot on - a faultless service and really nice person to deal with. He took the time to ring me when he had received the cart, told me what the condition was and then went through the various options very clearly. I went for the full monty and he did that in a surprisingly short timescale and had it back with me asap.

Other places seemed to want me to put my cart into a black hole of a queue, not really interested in talking to me and would send it back at some indeterminate point in the future, and that I should be grateful for that!

I can’t imagine who you mean by that :astonished:

Picked up the YL tweeters today and saw a mark inside and thought I’d investigate. The horn part felt a bit loose so I screwed it off and shredded some of the thread as there are three little allen bolts I hadn’t noticed. Will get a smalll enough key tomorrow and see if it goes back together ok. What a fucking idiot!

Damn! I hope they are ok.

It seemed to screw back in a bit down to the point the bolts are at and I think it was loose as the bolts weren’t fully tight (well, hoping) but there is a bit of damage to the thread like. I fucking hate it when I do shit like this and if I’d took two seconds to look around them would’ve seen the bolts.

I don’t even know if they’re ok anyway other than that, so fingers crossed on all counts. They are another step closer to a full set of speakers but I’m not there yet.

Not in my system today but I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Monitor Golds in Lockwood Major cabs. The cabs are not too pretty but I don’t care. The chap who has them now has been using crossovers from another pair of Golds as one of the crossovers that came with the speakers has a wee fault. The crossovers are going to be sent to Paul Coupe at RFC for a full refurb so it will be a while before I can collect the speakers but I’m really looking forward to them coming. Happy days.

I heard Marco’s pair at his house once. They are very impressive. I think they all seemed to be finished in the naffest Formica Lockwood could find.
