Shipping to USA, 35kg

I’ve been asked to ship my slate 401 plinth to the good old USA. The best quote I have is £151, any suggestions for alternatives?

I’m sure you’ve thought of it, but just in case, can your buyer get a better price for the job if he books it over there ?

This has the added advantage that if, heaven forbid, anything happens to it in transit then the shipping company will only want to talk to whoever’s paid them (currently you, but ideally your buyer). If they want evidence of the damage then that will have to come from the buyer, since he’ll be holding the item and its packaging and he will be the one who’s signed for its receipt. So if you arrange the shipping and a claim needs to be made then you will be involved in a 3-way transatlantic exchange to sort the mess out. Whereas if he arranges it then it’ll only be a 2-way exchange. The only proviso will be if the shipper argues it wasn’t ‘properly’ packed in the first place.

Good point Graeme, I will suggest it to him.

Also if there’s any argy-bargy over US customs/import duties/tariffs he’ll be the one who has to deal with the shippers over that. He might be in a stronger position if he’s the one paying them and it should at least be easier if he and they are on the same continent.
