Today I learned that the birds I hear singing their hearts out by the riverside in the middle of the night when I walk the doggos are sedge warblers. Before this discovery, I thought nighttime singing was the preserve of nightjars and nightingales (plus light-addled birds, like robins), but these and reed warblers sing at night, and quite a few have arrived in the area from Africa in the last couple of weeks.
Iāve also discovered that the RSPB and assorted other bird websites, donāt think the fact they sing at night is important enough to mention itā¦
