I’m pondering moving from Virgin cable tv and internet to Sky Full Fibre broadband with a Sky Stream tv puck.
Like for like deals are a similar cost as I’ve used the Sky offer to beat down my Virgin renewal costs so cost is not an issue. With both providers, I’m looking at 500mb download speeds, very comprehensive tv packages including Sky Sports and free Netflix. Both offer a phone line that I won’t use. £65 with Sky and £67 for Virgin.
General lethargy and can’t be fuckedness is telling me to stay with Virgin. Also slight concerns that it will be a total ball ache to get Alexa and my Samsung Smart Remote to play nicely with the Sky Stream puck.
That said there is something quite appealing about getting fibre brought into the flat at no installation cost as it opens up a world of choices when the Sky contract ends in 24 months.
FWIW, Virgin still have me on their Hub 3 which is now ancient and they refuse to upgrade it which annoys the fuck out of me. As a result, I’m using their hub as a modem and last year bought a wifi 6 router.
Are any of you chaps using Sky Fibre or the Sky Stream puck? Any experiences or comments that you’d like to share? Is Sky fibre reliable enough for tv or do you think I should keep tv provision separate from the internet? Is the Stream puck easy to use when it comes to bookmarking series to your playlist? Is Sky customer service easily contactable and helpful? Any advice welcomed. Thanks.
