SOYS: State Of Your System

I have the power-amp version of the A21a (the classic one that everyone rates), and I’ve had it for maybe 11 or 12 years. Wouldn’t ever consider selling it. Seems to be a thing that folks hang onto Sudgen amps. It just has a magic, and I’ve never heard anything I prefer. I did also have the A21a integrated, and was using them both with 4 SD Acoustics speakers in a Hafler configuration. Had a purge though, and let the integrated go, but only because I knew I still had the A21ap. Now I run my Dac straight into it, as the Jolida has a volume control.

That’s the one, but mine also has the mm / mc phono board

My system is much simplified since I dinged my phono stage and broke the switch, needs re-soldering which is too fiddly for me. Another disaster was that my efforts at building a final destination OB in the new house failed dismally.
My current system ignores these failures and does I think make a passable effort, although I would like to try a subwoofer with it. It comprises of an iPod plus Pure iPod dock, Audiosector DAC which goes dreckly into a Deware Zen Triode type amp built by Graeme VB and on loan from him. Speakers are a TL affair fitted with Jordan drivers they were picked up after a long drive from a Chinese fish and chip shop in Diss in 2008.

I’m guessing the DAC isn’t CE certified; thank goodness for Brexit releasing us from such bureaucracy!

Much of my old bits are still in the attic or spare room, 4 sets of large speakers, several amps and a few pairs of tweeters- I’m very poor at getting rid of stuff. Maybe I will get the building bug again but currently that seems a way off and Vinyl seems a faff to far ATM.

I have been spending much of my time lately faffing around in the garden. There have been projects aplenty there to keep me happy.

We had a family gathering in a large AirBnB a couple of years ago, and in the living room was a large pair of Triangle speakers on the end of a Naim system. First time I’d really heard either, properly. I definitely came away thinking they were a brand of speaker I could happily live with. Always tempted when I see a pair on eBay.

I’m on my second pair, and I love them, would love to have a space and set up that I could justify putting something from the Magellan range in.

Mine were a £350 bargain. They’ve been around the houses a bit. I think they were once James’s.

Those Classe’ s were £350 each too. Rather old but good.

Hope they are, as the have lightly-upgraded x-overs - nothing foo, but nice.

I should never have sold that system

Wouldn’t actually sound better than what I have now, but it had a certain magic at times that I’ve never heard with anything else…

Just plugged the ai 300 back in.
This amp should have sold by the bucket load in the mid 80s.
