Hmmn, output on both speaks greatly diminished following an extended & over enthusiastic listening sesh.
Initially thought I’d just blown the 7" SEAS Excel magnesium midrange drivers. Ordered some replacements which turned into a saga in itself.
Further investigation revealed the Fountek neo CD 3.0 ribbon tweets also to be not outputting owt.
Just had all the offending drive units out today & all checked out as working with the ole’ battery test trick.
As the lower bass units are still outputting fine as connected to the multi way crossover it seems I’ve actually managed to blow the mid & treble elements of both speakers crossovers & I guess luckily not the drivers.
Some years back I upgraded the original mk.1 crossover spec myself to the newer mk.2 boards.
The originals were on two boards per speaker & the mk.2 on a single fairly large board.
Plan 1 is to revert to mk.1 boards, but I only have the wiring schematic for the newer boards I’ve fitted.
Not quite clear from a look at the old boards as to what drivers each go to & there are additional connections to the triwireable 3 way binding post hookup box for some jumpers to tweek the levels for bass 'n treble.
I’ll be contacting XTZ in Sweden again next week ter see if they can furnish me with the schematics for the original boards.
Hmmn, do this & poss look at getting mk.2 boards repaired. Mk.1 boards will still sound good in any case.
See whether XTZ have any replacement later boards.
Surround sound still sounds very acceptable as my centre speaker does most of the heavy lifting & main speaks are still managing low end thump & some ambient fill in.
Stereo music however is quite sucked out & lifeless with the tweeter & main midrange unit not joining in.
Blowing crossovers is a complete first for me. Many moons back I’ve blown midrange units on a couple of different pairs of speakers, but only a single driver in each case. Which is why I’d initially thought just midrange replacements needed.
