Selling arts and crafts textiles? or was this William Morris in fact Phillip Morris’s communist brother?
nobody likes a smart arse
Sounded alright last time I was there
Got some upgraded cabling for loudspeakers and between CD Player and DAC… Pleased with the result. Old cables passed to friends building systems of their own…

Are the speakers new-to-you Rob? I lose track…
A bit of Pygmallion by Slowdive by the looks of it. Good choice Sir!
You found some nice KEFs then!
Yep, new to me. I’ve been after a pair for a good while but difficult to find a pair in the right finish (Rosewood) and within collection/meetup distance.
Military intelligence
Be interested to know what you think. I generally don’t take to Kefs, but the only time I heard a pair was collecting a lump of MF-shoeboxery (that dates it!) from a bloke in Chester - he’d just bought a pair of door-sized Quads, which were impressive in some ways, but oddly-homogenous somehow in others - he tried to flog me the Kefs, and I have to admit I preferred them to the much pricier ESLs. Should have left the bloody MF and took the Kefs!
A pair of these popped up locallyish
No idea where they stand on the kef ladder.

I really liked the 104/2 (as Stu linked) and the newer 201/2.
The main dowside of the 104/2 is I could never get the bass right in my old flat so moved them on. They have foam surrounds on the internal B200 bass drivers which always need replacing but its an easy job.
the 201/2 were probably my favourite speaker I’ve had (on balance) but at the time, before we moved house I needed the money (etc etc).
These ‘Three-Two’ model (silly name) are the newer decendant of the 104/2, both have dual 8" ‘Coupled Cavity’ bass drivers although the 104/2 has dual B110 midrange and a T33 tweeter, where as these use a 6" Uni-Q driver with an additional 6" mid-bass.
These seem to do the trick of the ATC SCM10, in that they sound pretty much the same at low volumes as they do when pushed, except these have quite considerably more headroom, and dynamics.
I have to say, I LOVE the Quadraspire rack, its a hefty item, and when loaded with the big Denon/Sony items its a joy that it has nyon casters, makes connection and moving so much easier!
Also part of my plan to make everything more ‘toddler proof’. Now we have 4x Niece’s and planning on starting a family in the next year…
Monster crossover over box on the rear with a spring loaded board👌
Yep, I’ve been listening a lot to them on Spotify and picked up a couple of the RSD editions, this one as well as ‘Slowdive’ in a rather fetching dark Green too.
Nice hi-fi unit Rob. It looks well there.
Is it any good?
Vintage knob fiesta!
Yes. It’s not a question of is it good, it’s how good.
In case you don’t know it’s design, it uses a Light Dependent Resistor, and unlike other preamps that do likewise, this has an active buffer rather than being passive.
It might not work in all systems as it has 0db gain but it works in mine very well. It’s also very quiet and so if anything else in the chain is bringing noise then it will show this up (in my case my DAC).
It’s true that it can offer incredible transparency and let detail and spatial detail shine through. On some tracks this is more pleasing than on others.
It’s not as good as the Preda Guy let me demo, that’s a tremendously sophisticated presentation and top to bottom bandwidth.
But I have heard preamps in the £3-10k range that sound worse than this. It cost me £350.
