If @Kevin reads this from Dom’s car driving home..Dom forgot his streamer here.

Anyone got Dom’s number? DM me please

Depends

Large & in-charge

 I forget most things these days

Thanks for an excellent day Steve, Sunshine, fresh pizza, lovely home made pud and great company.
Some excellent sounds from some really interesting speakers it was great to see and hear them. :+1:

Ripples in the space/time continuum?

They are both terracotta now :slightly_smiling_face:

Stock take of what’s left to do.

  1. Mounting rails that support the inner horn against the other enclosure.
Tricky as they taper and it’s impossible to measure inside. Will calculate.
  2. Sealing edges, rear of horn petals so they compression seal with the rear enclosure.
  3. Cover the back of the horn pyramid with sound deadening bitumen.
  4. Lift the SH50s form and take the apart.
  5. With the horn pyramids fitted drill for the 6 tension bolts that go through the rear enclosure and locate into blind nuts in the horns.
  6. Make up bolts of the right length. These will be a bit shorter than the SH50s.
  7. Drill for the 4 front mounting screws, horn pyramid to rear enclosure.
  8. Nick the drivers off the horn pyramids.
  9. Mount the drivers.
  10. Wire the drivers up.
  11. Check and test
  12. Lift up into place.
  13. Sit back and listen and swear to never again mess about with them😂… As long as they sound as good as or better than the SH50s!

Do you prefer tham to your previous horn adventures?

The Synergy horns are the most balanced across the spectrum horns I’ve owned or heard.

The distance between drivers of other multiway horn systems and large multi speaker systems in general, becomes more relevant in modest sized listening rooms.

The point source of the Synergy solves wanting multi way dynamics, clarity and heft all in one compact package.

Then there’s the lack of phase shifting crossovers. Systems with 180° phase shifts sound lumpy and uneven.
I got the multi horn system sounding pretty good with phase alignment over the X/O regions but the issues were still there.

Pete commented yesterday how even and together they sound.

Everything is in the right place across the frequency response. There’s nothing under or over emphasized.
You can get on and listen to the music.

I find them very easy to listen to for hours, yet they wow and apeal with dynamics and thunder, where the music requires that.

For this visit, I think tweaks in placement and phase linearity gave better imaging.

They integrate really well with tapped horns too (Danley family solution).

Dom played some really intrusive bassy stuff that I quite liked🙂 well more musical ones anyway😂

Where’s the Rockout emoji when you need it.

joke

The ones I heard all over a festival last year definately had a strong presentation / dynamics and just hung together very naturally without the ‘holes’ so often in horns. Kind of blew my mind

What were the room shaky tracks you used?

Now you’re testing my memory!
One of them was definitely; The Orb - Orb Is

That is bassy at 46 and 53 etc Hz.

Not a sofa vibrator like Mandalorian - Nurse Droid (22Hz).
Or that Lo Moon track. That sees a solid 22Hz too - I like! Straight to my Qobuz bass test playlist.

Try Felix Hell 1. introduction Allegro (organ sensation) it’s quiet so turn it up.
I get flat 20Hz with occasional 18Hz.

Tapped horns are wonderful!

Earlier today I did the following

  1. Lift one SH50 down and take apart.
  2. Cut and fix mounting rails that support the inner horn against the outer enclosure.
(Not so tricky as I thought as the hole for the S2 to stick out the back of the SH50 is large enough to get in and measure)
  3. Mounted the sealing edges on rear of horn petals.
  4. Drilled the 6 tension bolts that go through the rear enclosure and locate into blind nuts in the horns.

Hope to get one SH60 working today, but might be tomorrow evening..

Now done

  1. Cover the pyramid with bitumen sheeting @Ruprecht , cutout for taps and ports.

  2. Lined the horn to enclosure mating surfaces with sealing strip foam.
    Seals well, no daylight.

  3. Retrieved the 2nd set of Vitavox S2 screw on mounting rings I made many years ago from the now defunct Le Cléach upper mid horns.
    Trial fit - looks good.

The SH60 is so much shorter due to the 60° angle that the S2 fits entirely inside the SH50 rear enclosure!
I already have sealing cover plates, for the BMS4550 / Peerless 1" driver set ups that cover the S2 hole😉

Rest time; watching the 1st tennis semi final from Monte Carlo on replay.

Will watch the 2nd semi final tomorrow morning on replay.
