I put this up on the eBay thread a while ago.
He’s dropped the price a bit I see.
You probably couldn’t build them for that…
Interesting meteor strike/bedside cabinet/Teletubbies mashup there.
I’ve no idea what is going on there!
Forget 1/4 wavelength driver spacing😂
The Diyaudio group buy of Peerless by Tympahny DFM-2535R00-08 1" HF compression drivers is soon to be fulfilled👍
Required > 100 units order for them to manufacture.
First I will try them in the existing SH50 alikes I have. Easy as I have screw in adapters i made for the BMS 4550 PA drivers.
If I like them more than the Vitavox S2s (and it’s a big if!), I will go on to build a new pyramid horn section at 60° to fit them to see which horn opening angle I like best.
If the S2s beat the Peerless by Tymphany then the SH60s will be for the 1.5" drivers from the off!
Either way I have to modify 4 X 4" MF drivers to be sealed back and transpose over the 4 X Eminence Kappa 12A LFs.
Gonna be a fun project.
It always saddens me to see so much skilled craftsmanship get devoted to making something so fucking ugly.
Stuff in the b/g looks more promising
Got the Peerless 1" compression drivers today, from the DIYaudio group buy.
Didn’t have to pay Customs or VAT.
Unboxing
Removed the S2s.
Installed the Peerless.
Did a quick SPL set up / rough phase faff.
Playing quite nicely
Early days yet.
Def more HF air than the S2s, but can they match to tone - time will tell…
I’ve had a couple of goes at getting the elusive flat / coherent phase with these drivers.
You’d think it would be just to keep the LF and MF just the same, smooth the SPL curve to taste on the new HF drivers - a few PEQs and then phase time them in, but so far a really nice phase plot has eluded me!
However, rough as it is, they are sounding very good now with several hours music through them.
I remember how rough the BMS drivers sounded out the box.
These Peerless no where near as bad, but much smoother and detailed now.
More faffing tomorrow.
My pair were out for delivery yesterday and got to within a mile of me then all of a sudden ‘driver could not find address’
They are supposedly now at DPD Ipswich with no know expected delivery!
Fingers crossed
And it is on it’s way back to Germany!
DHL by chance??
Yes but I usually find them to be good.
So do I, but that same issue happened with me, and it was impossible to get it sorted.
Mine came via DPD and our excellent local guy Julian🚐
I take it you didn’t need to pay VAT?
If we’d done a UK group delivery we’d have taken that hit, I reckon.
They just fucked up, said details on parcel did not match me except that I have signed up for the app which showed everything was correct. Problem is once in the system to return they can’t stop it.
It is not like I have a horn just waiting for these to be installed, so no rush.
Here are some measurements of the overall SPL and phase.
LF are 2xEminence Kappa 12A
MF are 4xCelestion 5" sealed back
HF is Peerless Tymphany 2535 CD
Sound damn good now!
RH
LH
These are 1/6 oct taken 1m from the homebrew SH50s.
I did of course take some of just the Peerless HF driver but I can’t find them now… next time
BASSBOSS Krakatoa: Seismic Sound, Full-Range Performance
is this another variation on the concept?
Looks good. $18,000 for one side.
$36,000 for stereo.!!!
Don’t think so.
It’s 4 X 18" woofers each with a MF and a HF arranged as coaxials.
I didn’t listen to it all / beyond the explanation part, but in that time he didn’t mention horn, Multi Entry Horn, Synergy, or anything about phase coherency.
He did mention single point source as far as was possible within the confines of the size.
Not sure the sound ducting arrangement that leads the sound out to the front constitutes a horn or rather 4 horns? He didn’t use the horn word did he?
Perhaps that was international so as not to activate the passive radiator brigade’s prejudice against horns😂
I would assume the crossovers are standard 2nd 3rd 4th order etc although not mentioned.
That would preclude any synergyness.
In a deafen-off my money is on Danley Sound Labs🙂
