First of two butterfly inserts to stabilise a crack at one end of the table. I wouldnât normally use this material, but I had a small peice in the shop and this was a good opportunity to make use of it.
Itâs as hard as nails, so fitted it nigh on flush and will have to scrape it flush.
Lignum Vitae?
Cocobolo Rosewood. Apologies, forgot to say in original post.
I noticed a crack in the support piece too, are you going to do the same with that?
I really like it as a solution, really distinctive.

Fantastic. I really like that.
An artist!
There is something magical about taking a thing of beauty, and making its âimperfectionsâ into an intrinsic part of its character and interest. Love it!
Are the butterfly inserts through the full thickness of the wood, Bob?
So much faff. I just built a keyboard table for the basement: one cut with the table saw on an offcut of ply, three coats of Danish oil, quick delivery of some legs and ten minutes screwing them on.

Itâs only thanks to the likes of you that these old woodworking skills are kept going, well done sir.
Must have been a brave decision to go for the Hepplewhite legs rather than Chippendale style.
I admire your sense of adventure, sir. History will reward you/
