Please somebody make this make sense to me…
Its time to replace my old van. 2ltr diesel, no cat, no EGR, no Ad-blue pig piss, nothing 'environmentally freindly about it really. 12 months tax £335.
Van I’ve been looking at, 10 years younger, 1.5, pig piss, EGR Euro6 type compliant bla bla bla, 12 months tax £335
Im atruggling to find incentive to spunk quite a few grand on upgrading tbh.
Anyone else been here?
Environmental incentive? Less pollution, more dolphins.
Very much this.
I just dont get why reducing co2 costs me exactly the same as not giving a shit.
Also, too many planes in the sky to blame the planet on motorists.
As of April 1st (no joke) next year my £0 per year EV jumps to £195* !!
Go figure
*I think. I’m sure someone will be along and tell me how Rong I am
It’s not about environmental concerns it’s about revenue generation.
That’s it. The entirety of rfl is about the government snout in your wallet trough.
And to make you even more happier Rick, a newer van will probably put your insurance up a few hundred as well
We’ve had a few good years. £0 road tax isnt sustainable, stating the obvious I know. The cuntry is skint so taxing motorists is an easy (part of the) solution.
The £0 rfl is an incentive to buy a new EV - with the supposed environmental improvements but a huge chunk of VAT and Car Tax which will be much more than the \rfl the purchaser saves.
An increase, yes, but not a huge one.
It’s the incentives (or lack of) to buy newer/cleaner that’s been an eye opener.
If I never own an EV it will be too soon.
Even if you completely overlook the methods used to mine the raw materials , which I can’t, I’m too convinced that they are responsible for the shit show of our roads.
Weight + torque = damage.
The whole thing is a bit mad.
My 2013 Ford Focus diesel is not ULEZ compliant, falls foul of all congestion charges yet the tax is £20 per annum.
Same for my car Kev.
I could be pessimistic and call this thread a ‘trade tax’ because that’s what it feels like. That’s on top of the cost of buying a decent van these days, which is fecking bonkers!
And extra tax for anything with rrp greater than 40,000
Mine too. But for some, a car is considered a luxury rather than a means to get to work to earn enough money to live on- something not possible locally- to work in an occupation that is so unpopular no cunt wants to do it…
I would suggest more taxes on flights but for the muh holidays brigade.
Your choice tho
Yes. And the decline in living standards- not my choice- means that I have made the decision to fuck off out of it.
This is because I can no longer afford to drive to work every day. Much work is going on behind the scenes to make this happen.
So one less person to drive a shiny milkfloat.
Move closer to work or get a job closer to home?
Long term plan is to emigrate. Preparations ongoing; was offered an opportunity I cannot refuse!
But to answer your suggestions, renting in Croydon is simply too expensive. I overheard a conversation where someone had to scrape together a sum- in thousands for a deposit on a rental! Many colleagues are moving away from London.
This has been increasing steadily for the last fifteen years. A number of colleagues live in Hastings and Maidstone- further away than me!
Working locally? Well when I had my interview for the job in 2003 I passed the selection and the interview locally, but was advised to go to London as the wages were significantly higher.
Locally, provision of Welfare Facilities is considerably worse than in London.
At the moment, I get a very good deal on a Rail Pass which makes things possible- at the expense of the requisite 8 hours sleep we’re supposed to have- but when that changes, I will be off!
TL:Dr
Cost of living in the UK is too expensive. So I’m fucking off.
Which in van world isn’t a lot of money anymore. Madness.
I remember the conversation well. Just surprised you’re still here. If I had an open door out of this corrupt shithouse I’d be gone.
Wait 'til you find out where petrol comes from, it will blow your mind
