For me, The Beatles ace it for sheer breadth of musical competence and innovation / visionary (ness ?). Nothing like them before or since.

My current Beatles ear worm/ obsession is And Your Bird Can Sing. That twin guitar harmony part, the melody, with the oblique lyric mesmerises me.
