The Cure or the Bunnymen?

Afraid I don’t know enough by either band to make a fair judgement.
Though I thought the glastonbury set they did 2 years ago was excellent, especially burn.

Never really got the cure a few good singles.
The bunnymen were always in the background in Liverpool as a result I rarely listen to them, the pale fountains/shack were much better.

Still love some of will sergeants playing though

Will Sergeant’s solo LPs are terrific. Polytechnic Youth are going to repress the 1982 LP called ‘Themes for Grind’ at some stage in the next couple of months.

Yes, that was vintage Cure. What a talent.

The Cure. Not actually a competition is it? We listen to them all the time here - the early albums particularly sound fantastic. Go see them live, they are simply epic. :+1:

Which album of both bands are essential

The Cure - Pornography or Disintegration or Three Imaginary Boys
Bunnymen - Heaven up Here

For EATB I would suggest that the first three are really good. Heaven Up here is essential I don’t like Ocean Rain much.

For The Cure then 17 Seconds, Faith, Pornography, The Top and Disintegration are all really excellent and are all essential in my collection. Concert is top quality too.

Japanese Whispers is a good jumping off point for The Cure as well

The Cure - 17 seconds, Faith, Boys don’t cry and concert for a live experience.
Bunnymen- None but Crocodiles is worth it for a cheap secondhand bargain.

I thought he meant both versions of the Cure; with Lol Tolhurst and after.

Agree with that. Personally I have a real soft spot for Kiss me kiss me kiss me as it has some songs that mean something to me at a time in my life.

For similar reasons I can appreciate Disintegration is a work of utter beauty but a difficult listen from another part of my life.

This is why the Cure for me are my choice over Echo because Robert Smith’s song writing and lyrics find a deeper meaning and connection for me.

Erasure

No wonder your heels wear down quick

Been a while, must listen to some Cure tomorrow

Occasionally hear a Bunnyman track on the radio and am reminded to check their stuff out again, generally disappointed. They were dull when I saw them at Glastonbury in the 90s

Cure are always there awaiting an opportunity to revisit the platter, never disappointing. One of my top 5 gigs, Cure in a big tent in Auckland, late 90s

Not a huge fan but they’ve always been there

I was at their first Glastonbury gig in 86. Thunder, lightning and The Cure on top form.
Probably the most memorable festival performance I’ve experienced and there have been many.

ETBM - Heaven Up Here, some of Porcupine, some of Ocean Rain, and oddly some of Evergreen

The Cure: Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography, Kiss Me, Disintegration, Wish and Bloodflowers (to a lesser extent)

Wish arrived at a moment in my life when the entire bleakness was a perfect fit (if u ignore the cheesy cash generator tracks), and it still does it for me.

Me too. An epic night for lots of reasons. :grinning:
Remember the lasers from the top of the pyramid?
