My cüntzwäggen is ULEZ compliant (fuck knows how as it’s a lumpen diesel convertible) as is the wife’s hybrid tree hugger special.
London is a far nicer place to visit than it was back in the 90’s when I lived there for a shite 6 months before coming to my senses and moving out again. I no longer get black lung from a day there and the clatter of diesels has been replaced with the otherworldly electric hum of the future.
I have some sympathy for working drivers such as taxis, delivery drivers etc who are going to be impacted but as I don’t want my kids or potential grandkids to have to embrace genes from the land of the small garage to equip their progeny with webbing and gills.
Fuck ‘em.
Oh and anyone moaning about being able to afford a ULEZ compliant car? They are fucking cheap, like a few grand cheap so fuck off with that noise.

There may not be much choice with this in mind:
I drive in some of the least and the most salubrious suburbs. The gap is significant and is overlooked at one’s peril.
This may go some way to explaining the anger around ULEZ.
It absolutely does not justify the vile comments and threats towards Sadiq Khan.
People being pushed out of the City is as old as the City itself. Tear down ‘the buildings’ in the East end & ship people out to Bracknell / Stevenage / Milton Keynes / blocks of flats? Gentrification etc etc. Change happens, capitalist society dictates displacement. Down here second homes in quaint little hamlets have pushed prices so high families have been priced out. Bollocks as as this is, there seems to be a lack in examples of socialist utopias. Greed is a thing.

I don’t really mind house building companies building expensive, high profit houses; they will do whatever they will do to maximise profit. What we do need, though, is councils building social housing. Give people who may not be able to afford the middle class dream of your own castle with a moat somewhere decent to live with good security of tenure.
One of the reasons why St Albans is a nice place to live is the amount of social housing: it means that the pubs are busy, the market is flourishing and you can get a cleaner, local car washer etc

On my morning stroll today I noticed that a guy up the road seems to have grown a midlife-crisis cum mobile ecological disaster in the form of a really shonky old Land Rover. Might be ex-forces, might just be painted green.
I just checked what “classic” actually means and it seems to be “more than 40 years old”. The license letter is a trailing “W”, which because I’m old still seems relatively recent, but on Googling it that places it at 1980 / 1981.
So yes, he’s bought a horrific old banger because he has fond memories of playing with Action Man, he’s cynically picked one that is just within the definition of “classic”, and that’s just stupid that he can do it 
Car broken down = engine not running = no emissions from that engine.

Used to be 25 years old which made a car exempt,guessing as cars got more reliable it changed to 40 a while back.

One of my neighbours, he of the five or six cars at any one time, recently acquired an early 90s (at a guess) Mercedes.
It’s the sort of thing you’d only buy if you were an enthusiast, and there’s no way it’s ULEZ compliant.
This evening I see that he’s gaffer taped over the license plates.
He’s a bit of an oddball, but if this is some kind of amateur-hour ULEZ defeat device then I don’t think it’s going to end well.

The office is not in the ULEZ zoned
From J9 of the M25 (Blue dot) I have two options to the office (red dot) which are about the same distance.
When I was a regular commuter I used to let google maps make the decision on which way would be fastest.
Now if I take the A243 I will hit the ULEZ zone at Malden Rushett and incur a £12.50 charge If I take the A244 through Oxshott it is free.
I wonder where all the traffic will be?
