I know. I decided that it wasn’t my information to share.
Makes me larf though
Too many vowels is a bugger.
Quick question, thinking of doing some longish driving for people who want expensive stuff about, but don’t want it done through couriers.
I’ve no idea pricing wise.
Was thinking 50p per mile for first 500,then down to 30p pm after.
I.e 1000 miles = £400
Does that sound too much?
Petrol for 1000 miles round trip would be around £160
Profit £240
Realistically 1000 miles will take 15 hours or more.
I suspect the costing isn’t unreasonable. Maybe look at what an antiques courier might charge, should give you a ballpark for that sort of thing.
An accountant would add in wear-and-tear on the vehicle, road tax, insurance (you might not be covered for this kind of use by normal insurance), any tolls or parking charges, costs of rest breaks etc, etc.
Not wishing to piss on your chips, but I think you need to look at this a bit harder.
As an example, London to Manchester is around 200 miles so you would be charging £100 assuming you can only charge for the delivery leg. In that case you’d have to double the cost to cover your return journey. Even if you do that you still only charge £200.
It would take around 4 hours each way plus faffing around at each end - say ten hours total so a whole day. 400 miles is approximately 10 gallons of fuel, so around £60, plus any other maintenance costs.
Your 1,000 mile example is approximately London to Dundee and back - around eight and a half hours each way plus faffing time, so you’d have to factor in an overnight stay somewhere.
You also need to factor in insurance.
Sorry to sound negative but you could end up making bugger all for a lot of work and risk,
Not cost effective I fear.
Start with minimum wage per hour. Add £X per mile to include cost of fuel insurance road tax servicing etc. that will give you a cost for the time and to cover expenses. You then determine how much above minimum wage your time is worth and add to the figure. Your price can then be calculated on expected time plus miles.
My guess is that the gear must be worth £1,000s to make it worth the owners paying the correct fee as you are unlikely to have lots of items per run.
My first thought has nothing to do with costings: your back mate.
People are gonna want their heavy shit lifting-around for them.
You’ll need some sort of lifting’n’shifting gear f’sure.
Besides what others have said you are going to need some kind of business and public-liability insurances on top of other costs… And that’s if you can find someone that will even take this sort of a thing on…
