Took my niece to see Twelfth Night at Stratford last night. It was good - a very strong cast kept us entertained with Shakespeare’s double-entendres, a fart joke and audience-participation juggling in the interval, as well as a very capable performance of the play itself.
As we were leaving though my sister texted to say she and her husband had gone out to the pub and each had left their house keys at home thinking the other had theirs. My niece keeps the only spare and we were at least an hour’s drive away. Sat nav said the quickest way back was on the M40 except that when we got to J15 we found the southbound slip coned shut. By the time I’d hacked back on country roads, dropped my niece off, driven the key to my sister and then got home it was 1am or so. I’d had a dry night (driving) so I poured a glass of red by way of a nightcap only to catch it with my hand and tip most of it onto the living room carpet … Next 20 mins spent with kitchen roll mopping up.
