We had an open day at the laser facility once and had a demo set up where we etched a few children’s names inside plain glass blocks. Back then (1990’s) it was a real faff to do and the results were rather crude. The technology’s rather more impressive now !

If any of you fancy one I’ll ask Anne where she got the solar system globe as it was a last minute thing but was cheap as chips apparently.
