Yesterday was the first November 5th since 1969 that I neither heard nor saw any fireworks. I was in Germany then.

I left Harrogate Army Apprentice College in 1973.

I remember being sat in Krefeld looking out of the window looking for fireworks.

DOH!

I was in Stuttgart then. I am now in North Wales. Days of wind and rain.

Halloween is more popular than Guy Fawkes day this year where I live ..Not sure why …Also a new McDonalds has opened nearby on the 5th Nov ..Packed to rafters with parents and offspring’s maybe that’s where the firework people were..

Because the shops can sell you stuff for it (I can just about remember my Tesco’s stocking boxes of fireworks, I think, but not any more of course).

Quite a lot of life is driven by businesses doing everything they can to part you from your money and they work very hard at it.

Meeting up today with another couple of old school friends from the year/house cohort.

We were a tight unit anyway but I was very close to one of the guys I’m meeting today - shared a study with him for years.

We lost contact quickly. I don’t think I’ve spoken to him since 1987. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes.
