Today I have mainly been V5.0

What pain killers did you get?

Wont help with the kind of dental pain you suffer before you can even get to see a dentist, which can be months.

Blimey, where do you guys live? I can see my Dentist the next day if I am in pain.

I can’t remember it was a while back. We must be very lucky round here, our NHS dentist is 5 minutes away and it’s no problem to get an emergency appointment.
Wifey has just sent me the list of drugs that dentists can prescribe.

A couple there that can help with sleep, but no opioid or other strong pain relief.

It’s a major problem that was highlighted during Covid, but existed well before that. The ability to get pain releif before seeing a dentist. Also, some dentistry borders on minor surgery, trust me, the pain following multiple extractions and inserts is not pleasant, I was driven to despair. Like I said I ended up illegally using left over script pain killers from mates.

Since you can get over the counter paracetamol codeine mix and ibuprofen codeine mix (max 8mg codeine) and you can take paracetamol and ibuprofen together, a creative person might combine them to get a double hit of codeine.

Not that I’d recommend it in any way shape or form.

Been there, hardly touched the sides of the pain. 32 mg ones worked, can take eight of those a day, a pair would see me ok for a couple of hours. Tended to save them for bed time.

Unfortunately with the 8mg, it’s limited by the half gram paracetamol, the ibu coed ones in conjunction allows an increase.

It is daft not allowin chemists to issue a short course in 32mg ones, even worse is not allowing doctors to prescribe coeidene for dental pain, now they did work :+1:

I have more major dental work in a years time, am already acquiring pain releif in advance, lesson well and truly learnt.

Yeah, the 30mg ones are good. I got some after a motorbike accident way back, and they do make you float.

The above is probably the best you can do without a prescription.

Codeine is not particularly effective for dental pain and most dentists will not prescribe it

According to this thread they won’t prescribe anything.

I have repeats set up on my phone.
Ready next working day

Who rings up for repeats?

Next working day is optimistic for me, but I’m sufficiently organised that I can sort it. But surely you can’t get antibiotics on repeat?

No probably not antibiotics on repeat, but I have an emrgency stash of antibiotics and steroids, if I don’t use them and they go out of date they prescribe some more.
Everything else is on repeat

Mrs M has been to the dentist today for regular check up. When she was booking for her next cu (9 months hence) the receptionist told her that new guidelines are being put forward that all CUs will be 2 years.:flushed:.
The system is fucked

That’s the Tory grand plan to help clear some of the backlog for NHS dentistry only.

I think my last visit to a dentist was in 2003 - for an extraction.

When the App doesn’t work after x2 weeks of waiting + reordering & going to the chemist to check. Call 1+ hr waiting…‘A doctor will call you back’ No call. Call again 1+hr attempting to get through, A doctor will call you back. No Call.
Issue, Seasonal Asthma - they want to check peek flow, make an appointment with the Asthma nurse in x2 weeks…Err Not so keen, I can’t breathe now, inhalers running out - Buy inhalers next day delivery.
