Today I have mainly been

Paying the roofer for pointing and rendering the chimney and making good frost damage, paying the dentist to have a look in my gob, waiting for the burglar alarmist chappie to give me a ball crunching quote to replace and fit a new and posh bell box. Basically a happy bankrupt Thursday.
Pleased all you employed people are contributing to my pension, so I can enjoy the thrill of pulling notes out of my wallet to put back in circulation.

I received this email from ā€œHMRCā€ today

Got stung hard and fast in my first years trading - having made, as has become traditional -
substantially less than fuck-all, and Sam having painstakingly done ALL the leg work - Ā£660 to type into some boxes online…

Never again - it’s cheaper to cock-up occasionally and pay the fines…

Wasting my time working, soooo pissed off with all the crap at the moment. I worked out I can survive 5 years not working and then retire officially.

I got a rebate notice and it looked EXACTLY like a HMRC form asking for my bank details for them to deposit the money. I did not respond.

Our guy was friendly and helpful and did supply us with a complete record of exactly what he’d done. But his fee was very close to that under very similar circumstances. OK, I guess he does have to run a town-centre office with someone to answer the phone, send out the bills etc etc.

We’ve found the .gov website pretty clear and easy to work with and the help facilities have been useful. If we were a bigger and more complex entity (and paying more tax) than we are then there might well be some scope for an on-the-ball accountant to save us a few quid. But it’ll be a while, I think, before they could save us as much as they cost. And when I’m being grown up I sometimes feel that at least some of the tax I pay gets spent on the NHS and schools and people less fortunate than we are. My accountant, on the other hand, drives a very nice foreign car.

i had a phone call from hmrc the other day , saying they were taking out a lawsuit against me. for a moment my heart stopped !!! till i figured it was yet another scam

This definitely isn’t a scam but I still don’t believe it. Someone from HMRC is going to have to walk me through the numbers first.

Have you been IR35d on your latest cat herding?

today beginning to prepare a beautiful little house for a young couple. fabulous little place next to a railway but its fascinating watching all the different trains . the garden had some beautiful bushes with flowers on and overlooked by trees . very enjoyable preparing a place . mind you the last tenants were incredible . uncommonly conscientious and left the place very tidy

Nope even though they’ve changed the questions to try to drag more people into IR35 my company can offer more than one person to fulfil the work and it isn’t taking a long term substantive Exec job which they would argue should be on the payroll.

Rushing to get something sorted for our local Window Wanderland

Will post a picture at some point.

Still scratching my head but now with the benefit of money actually refunded in my bank.

that’s interesting? what are you going to do? Sit on the window ledge naked?

Did you not get the walkthrough?

Did you pay July payment on account by mistake

That’s exactly what I’m checking now :+1:

Might be well in the market for a pair of compact horn speakers…

That was last year… we are really busy this year so only enough time to fill one pane.

In memory of my M-i-L who passed away last month, I did a blackbird at dawn which echoes music chosen for her funeral service (Blackbird by The Beatles, and Morning Has Broken).

It looks much better at night when lit from inside the house. Crappy phone picture.
