Lets just hope that when we come out the other side from Covid Halfords are still around!
There is a Halfords next to a B&Q less than a mile from the new house, I think the car is going to learn the route quite quickly!
Indeed!
Oooh
Planning on working on live electrics?
I have been known to
I came into contact with a live 3 phase supply with this in my hand about 20 years ago
Not sure the 1000v rating is still there now!
I want me some Chisels. Say under £150 for a set of 3-6, any suggestions?
Narex chizzels are very good value.
Can get a set of 6 in a box for that money.
I bought 1 then bought 3 more individual ones.

Beware, they will be about as handcrafted by him as my arse. A lot of the japanese producers mass produce chisels under the name of the owner of the factory. They employ dozens of blacksmiths and make thousands of chisels. Largely overpriced and full of marketing hype.
Choose wisely when it comes to Japanese chisels, especially the mass produced ones.
For comparison a chisel made by the hand of a master blacksmith will cost ITRO a couple of hundred quid a pop.
Dieter Scmid usually keeps a few nice ranges in and he seems to pick the nice ones;
from Tasai at a couple of hundred
some of the more mass produces blacksmith named varieties such as Matsumura and Hokusai at £30 to £60 (I have a couple of mortice chisels from Matsumura)
To your actual mass produced variety at £20
Thanks Bob. Really not bothered about western/Japanese, just something decent but value for money. Mostly just for cleaning up joints and maybe some dovetailing at some point.
Ashley Iles set of 6 bench chisels would be hard to beat, good all rounder even for dovetails (I know you enjoy your dovetailing Edd), keep an eye on EA Berg chisels on ebay, very nice but wait for the right price. Forget Japanese stuff unless you really want to start down that path but if you like the idea look at Ouchi. I have the odd Stanley Everlasting chisel from the US at the right price that are great.
Personally I’d split the funds. But a couple of used Marples or sorby for general purpose work, say three quarter and one inch. Then a 3mm and 9mm decent chisels for the dovetailing. Happy to post you a couple to try out, see what suits.
