I will be moving a motorbike engine from the guy in Glasgow who’s building it to Canada in the next 2 or 3 months.
He’s happy to crate it but doesn’t want to deal with shipping - so I’m starting a search for a suitable shipping agent / company.
Does anyone have experience of shipping a relatively large heavy item like this overseas, or reccos for shippers? Advice and abuse gratefully accepted…
Are you looking for door to door or will you collect from the port / airport? (Pening your prefference)
Customs clearance your end and forward shipping can sometimes be the least hassle. For this you would need an agent in Canada also. Unless you go full spendy and have the whole thing managed as a seamless chain. There are lots of ways to slice this one
I’ll see if Keith will drop it off, but it’ll probably need to be picked up from his workshop. Cost is a factor, but I’d like to get it to Halifax NS at least - the next sizeable port is Montreal which is a trip + likely language barrier away… I’m ok with handling customs at this end if it’s local to Halifax though.
If you need it picked up in Glasgow and dropped somewhere nearby I should be able to help out. I pass the airport most days.

That’s a fantastic offer
- but you should be aware it will most likely be on a half pallet and weigh about 125-130 kg total, so I think we’re talking about a tail lift van + pallet jack combo…
Ah maybe not then. I was thinking more fold down the seats and slide in the back of the car!

Knowing the fella who’s building it, he would probably offer to take one side and get it in the car with you, but then you’d be stuck with unloading it at the shippers
