Another rock pipit. Mine was Portland Bill

Mostly today was practicing Birds in Flight ahead of a bird boat trip safari around the harbour tomorrow morning.

While out walking today a bird I couldn’t recognise took off in a field next to the path we were on and flew away from us. Larger than a blackbird or thrush, maybe Jay or Magpie sized or slightly larger. It had brown wings but the body/back from our viewpoint looked mustard coloured. What might it have been, that size & yellow?

Green Woodpecker seen in bright sunlight? :man_shrugging:

A fairly distant Great Northern Diver at Brough Lodge today was soon joined by another.

I think that’s a fabulous shot.

Not mine, just pulled it from the 'net to illustrate my guess

Ah, OK, still a lovely picture though :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds like a fieldfare - the odd colours could be down to the low-angle light this time of year.

Yes, that’ll be it, I just didn’t think they were that yellow from behind.

The yellow rump is quite striking. In strong light it could well fool you into thinking it was more widespread.

Marsh Harrier taunting me again. One day it will come close enough for a decent photo.

Seem to be getting the feel of that lense nicely Andy.

Thanks I think so. It is a fair bit more difficult to wield than my the 400mm lenses I have used up to now. Carrying it is no problem - Holding it still whilst pointing at birds for prolonged periods in a wind is difficult but I am getting stronger and have bought a monopod which can help.
