Twitchers Revisited

A sparrowhawk was on the balcony when we returned to the apartment today.
I managed to open the patio door and creep out with a camera - He didn’t stay long

More effective than the chopped-off pigeon spikes, I guess!

Sorry about the gross over processed mobile 'phone pics, but are these Ring-Necked Parakeets?

Never seen them in Newport Pagnell before so was surprised to see two pairs hanging out at the local Common

Short eared owl on the Isle of Sheppey, lovely sunny day and great sunset, saw lots more than I thought, but missed the Hen Harrier

There was a lovely sequence on countryfile on Sunday where someone had filmed many different birds of prey on Sheppey recently including, I’m sure, your short eared owl.

Had fun yesterday trying (unsuccessfully) to get some decent shots with the old Tamron 80-210mm I have - getting quicker with the manual focus, but lots of room for improvement!

Probably should have done better with the pheasant though, considering it was v close, and pretty slow moving

Had another go today - no fieldcraft required at a local feeding spot but happier with these captures and had a jolly good time.

I had the focus magnifier on when the Woodpecker landed on the feeder, scattering Blue Tits in it’s wake, and it looked magnificent through the viewfinder!

Nothing exotic but hopefully all identified correctly:

Coal Tits

Great Tit

Blue Tit

Can’t help but feel that farmers are now one of the ‘forces of resistance’…asking for compensation before they know the impact

Any change brings out the moaners and mongerers.
It’s very simple to check the data from where they have been re-introduced.

I spent about a fortnight working for some “farmers” at the tail end of last year. I use inverted commas because it was a pheasant / grouse shooting estate, which is not really agriculture imho. I found the whole thing phenomenally off-putting, a lot of absolute cuntery and some significant abuses of things like the minimum wage.
