Reading between the lines a bit, does make me think that in this case the pelicans would mainly be the ‘poster-child’ for a wider attempt to revitalise wetland habitats, which would be laudable, though other rarer habitats (e.g. southern acid heathlands), need the help much more as they’re still disappearing at a rate-of-knots beneath housing conurbations &c.

Yeah, there’s been a huge UK influx of Russian Whitefronts this month. Plenty in Shetland too, strange how they’ve always been so scarce in Fetlar.

It had been in Northumberland for a week or so then a birder I know found it at Druridge Bay on Sunday, it was moving South.

My mate saw it at Tunstall Hill (Sunderland) a couple of hours later and it was seen South of Middlesbrough later that afternoon.

Good bird to see in Co Durham although not the first one that’s been recorded there.
