I’ve had one here in spring (adult) and 3 in autumn (all juveniles)
And still don’t understand why they’re called grey when they have the most beautiful yellow ![]()
I’m quite taken by the Brambling!
Nightmare conditions today - F10W - not easy to stand up, let alone photograph birds. However, this Red-breasted Flycatcher was a patch first for me so I had to try. Over an hour at the site to see it four times, always briefly, as it skulked around the inside of the lower parts of the trees and bushes, no doubt trying to keep out of the worst of the wind.
Loving the third shot !
A few from today
Female Blackcap
Siskin
And the only scarce bird I saw all day, a (very distant!) Slavonian Grebe
Some cute birds there Paul … thank you ..![]()
Always make me smile …
Watched a couple of Merlins having an aerial tussle today. Hard to capture (didn’t get close to getting them both in one shot) the speed they were moving at, it was tough enough to keep up with them.
This one is an immature male (I would like to think it was one of the chicks we ringed in July) and the other was a much larger female but I didn’t see it well enough to be able to age it.
Huge influx of Redwings today - a few thousand - they were everywhere. Just the odd Fieldfare with them but they’ll arrive in bigger numbers soon.
Superb Merlin pics, Paul.
Would love to see one.
Finally found a rarity this Autumn, Olive-becked Pipit at Funzie mires.
Yellow-browed Warbler numbers have been relatively poor this Autumn and most of them have been quite elusive. One of them eventually put on a show today at Leagarth.
The Pipit is pretty spectacular.
Great shots Paul and interesting to see what’s incoming up there.
Finally after many years of misses and camera screw ups, I got some decent shots of my nemesis at Stodmarsh NNR today
Fabulous ![]()
Beautiful!
