Crazy.

Are they going to euthanise every migrant bird that arrives in Oz?

Either that or the native wildlife will do it.

Incredible photograph by this dude

Staggeringly good photographs

Redwing, (I think anyway) in my garden this morning. Not the best shot as perched behind a branch.

We have lived here for almost 17 years and saw one of these in the garden today for the first time.

Not my photo!

The mrs wants some ‘reasonably’ priced binoculars for looking at birds while out walking. I suggested Swarovski and she nearly died at the prices. I’m assuming up to £100 and not afraid of second hand

we ended up with a pair of Minox ones for Louise, but it was torture getting to that point. We bought and got refunded for about 6 pairs, that she felt comfortable with, were the right weight.

Many we tried were too heavy and she couldn’t hold them up for any length of time. IIRC hers are from the HG range 8x43 - which might be way out of budget. Bit they have other ranges, we liked the Minox optics, weight and ease of use.

Mind you she does have weird eyesight which played some part in getting it right.

I keep an old pair of Opticron 8x42 BGA by the garden window, which cost me £50 on the 'bay. They are not as good as my new Hawke ED pair, but not a vast amount in it, and quite adequate for general viewing. There are a lot of mid-range ones around - as Simon says (see what I did there?) it’s best to try some, but with COVID that may not be possible. At that sort of price you could always resell without much loss if you want to change.
(My Hawke Sapphire ED 10x42 were £200 in a half-price offer from Harrisons on the 'bay)

Double the budget but I have these Nikons and they’re excellent VFM, used mainly for birding

The primary principal to consider will be 8 X or 10 X dom…

I’ve got a pair of these I don’t use.

Bought them from our local charity shop brand new and never used them. Chucked away the box.

Yours for a small bung in the fund if they would help as an interim.
