Ugh, estate agents

There I was researching a visit to the Dennis Severs house* when all we needed was to arrange a viewing of this place!

*We really are going, it looks fascinating. Might do the night time, silent, candlelit tour.

Have you been to John Soanes house? That’s really well preserved too

Really like that, some lovely features. I suspect t that Hel would move in tomorrow if she could.

No. But I am aware of it and must try to visit at some point.

Definitely worth a trip and make sure you do the private rooms bit too, can’t remember the exact days you have to go for that, but it’s limited numbers first come basis. But well worth waiting for.

The Hunterian museum is across the square and worth seeing whilst in the area.

Is she the Witchfinder General?

And I agree, it has some lovely features but, it’s fundamentally less comfortable to live in than a static caravan and will cost you two million quid for the privilege.

Oh and;

You don’t. You buy a crippled orphan for 11 shillings, teach them the fiddle and put them on a stool in the corner. Sound in more rooms can be achieved by either;

  • Shouting at the orphan to play louder.
    or
  • Buying another orphan.

Anyone fancy the island life? I’ve stayed here a couple of times, once in the servants’ quarters when they were a hostel, and once in the guest rooms when they had us double-booked with another party - we even had dinner in the dining room. It’s been shut for quite a while, hope it can be saved.

That’s nuts for the price.
All I can think though is the heating bill,price of curtains and carpets etc.

150 AA members at £5,000 each buys it.

Retirement home for aging idiots
I’m happy to live there full time and do a bit of gardening if I can be arsed.

I noticed that the Lopwell ā€˜cafe’ was Sale Agreed when I was down there the other day. I wonder who’s bought it and what their plans are, given that they’ve got to leave the car park free for day trippers.

I think that repair and maintenance bills may be several times the sale price, sadly

Will be interested to see what they do with it. It’s very limited unfortunately.

NatureScot tried to offload that place years ago, for £1

At the time the estimated refurb cost was £20m which will undoubtedly be a lot more by now. Increased material/labour costs and 4 or 5 years of further decay.

Even if you had the money to buy/refurb it, the locals have a significant say in any proposed future use.

I can’t see anyone taking all of that on.

I know. It’s just such an interesting place.

The line ā€œIn the Same Family Ownership for over 35 Yearsā€ is absolute gold.

All the mould…:grimacing:

ā€˜The property requires a program of refurbishment…’

It’s not mould, it’s an opportunity to develop the properties character.

I feel they missed the chance to unveil the phrase ā€˜ancestral crackden.’
