That wailing bag of cats?
Couldnât disagree more. I could probably name tens of bands more overrated than them. Right off the top of my head - Oasis, Showaddywaddy, Bros, The Smiths, Iron Maiden, The Three Degrees, Jesus And Mary Chain, Sham 69, Happy Mondays (Bez was funny though), Cliff Richard âŚ
But thereâs almost no objectivity in any of this. I just donât rate Champagne Supernova or Mistletoe & Wine. I donât like cauliflower either, or EastEnders, or swirly-patterned carpets. Other people do.
A lot of other musicians claim to have been influenced by The Beatles and a lot have covered their stuff. Name me 10 Oasis covers that have charted.
VB
Most of the Oasis singles pretty much count, I would have thought.
There you go.
Funny, when I used to come down I was always disappointed I hadnât learned complex ancient instruments (Sitar) revolutionized the recording process or broadcast the concepts of eastern philosophy to an uptight west.
John Lennon was Middle Class I think.
We were wearing Pierre Cardin collarless suits (with flared trousers) well before the Beatle suit came out and the same with the Beatle haircut which was out of date in London, we were back combing our hair a la Rod Stewart.
collarsless
Suites?
Sofa so good?
No. Cunts that canât count deserve ban, you want ban?
The Early Beatles were not considered âCoolâ by those defining themselves in such terms (Mods) The Action, Pretty Things & the creation, little Stevie Winwood, Georgie Fame, Small Faces et al were all seen as cool but for the most part it was the US R&B acts that were seen as ârealâ Bobby Bland / Otis etc. The Who and the Stones were both the biggest cash inâs on the rebellious Mod Scene. The Stones Marketing from Andrew L O was pretty cutting at the time " Would you let your daughter marry a Rolling Stone" The Beatles however were rapidly morphing and by of Revolver (1966) they were less molded by management / more exposed to the new movements happening in the USA and they were accomplished performers. They had been gigging intensely since they lived behind a porno screen in Hamburg and possessed the interplay and songwriting strength can only really come from living âinâ musicâŚSo much so musicians respected them greatly.
They changed apparently when Bod Dylan mentioned that they should write more than âmoon and Juneâ songs and thus Norwegian Wood was born.
When The Beatles were writing for there teen audience the Stones first album came out. Here is a track. https://youtu.be/rmO1KJdO2EU
You should have taken a bit more.
John Lydon.
Not a band.
What about Kraftwerk from 1973-76? Joy Division from 77-80?
Pedant
You rang, Sir?
I think Lydonâs work on the first couple of PiL records is astounding, but he wasnât alone was he?
