Vacuum Sealer

I’m thinking of buying a vacuum sealer.

I would use it mainly for freezing fresh meat/fish and batch cooked meals (and probably other things that I haven’t thought of yet)

I’m not planning to delve into sous vide, anytime soon.

Tempted by this one which has decent reviews and is currently on offer

Comments/recommendations please.

Do you want to be able to vacuum seal things like stews, soups, or other “wet” things?

Preferably

I have one from Lidl which was about £20. I’ve had it a few years now and use it fairly regularly mostly for sous vide stuff. And it’s fine. It has some kind of attachment for sealing liquids, but I’ve never used it so can’t speak for its effectiveness.

They keep restocking them so they must be reasonably decent quality.

In fact, I think I’ve seen them in there in the last week or so.

Sadly my nearest Lidl store is in Aberdeen…

If you’re willing to risk 20 notes to try it out I’ll see if there’s one in my local store tomorrow?

That’s very kind of you Rob, thank you!

For that kind of money its got to be worth a try, particularly as it seems to be able to handle wet food (the one I posted doesn’t)

I’ll pop in tomorrow.

In which case, any of the ones that work like that are going to be an issue - you need a chamber sealer. The strip sealers only really work on solid items - liquids get sucked out of the bag, unless you watch them like a hawk and can hit the stop/seal button at the right time.

The chamber ones are more expensive, but you also don’t have to use the special bags with the weave on them either, so it off sets a bit on that front.

Ah right, I see. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe I’ll stick to freezer bags for the really wet stuff, at least for now.

Tbh, I think it will get used more for raw meat/fish than anything else but if I use it as much as I’m expecting I’ll look at something like that.
