Vintage receivers

Thinking about getting an old receiver to match our house’s 70s style.

Any suggestions on what to get?

Been looking at Marantz, Rotel and Saba.

I’d add the higher end Pioneers and Sansuis to that list.

I’d forgotten about Sansui, Pioneers seem to be collectable (expensive)

Yamaha and Hitachi.

IIRC we had a Ferguson, which was absolutely shit. Avoid them.

And Trio/Kenwood and Sony. They all made good stuff at the higher end.

I suppose the trick is finding stuff that’s been looked after and serviced and looks cool as a bonus. Big VU’s and or CRT tuning indicators ftw.

I love this one but too spendy.

It is a Ferguson though.

Think of it as an investment…

We had an appalling music centre thing as well. That may have been made by Ferguson (or was it Fergusson) too. Anyway, the point was that they were shit and are to be avoided.

FWIW, I could find space for a top of the range Yamaha receiver from the late 1980s as long as it was absolutely festooned with knobs, switches and VU meters.

That is what has got me looking, don’t even need to attach speakers.

Go 2500 or go home…
