I need to simplify my life and just having someone take all the vinyl in one swoop seems like the easiest solution. No real collector’s stuff as it was all new vinyl and the only stuff worth anything would be Analogue Productions stuff and the like.
That would probably be the deciding factor.
We all have individual records that are worth something but a lot of (In my case) pretty worthless stuff too.
I wonder what their offer would be compared to say a Discogs median valuation for the collection?
It’s not like I’m trying to get rich so I suppose it doesn’t matter too much, I just don’t want to give it all away and hope for a nice smooth process more than anything.
I don’t even have that many really, guessing 300 or so.
Somewhere between one-third and one-and-a-half of the median value at the agreed condition is about right.
If you insist the lot is taken as a whole, expect less.
I’ve run www.sellrecordcollection.com for over 14 years now (the site’s more or less fallow at the moment). Over time it’s been whittled down to jazz only, simply because there are so many collections out there that are, frankly, average at best.
It’s just not financially viable to sell records online for less than £20 these days once you factor in buying costs, mailers, cleaning, overheads, tax, and time. You’d honestly earn more working at McDonald’s.
£10–£15 records are fine for shops and record fairs, but expect slow sales.
I mean you also come up with what you think is a sensible price and offer here. I know I could be interested in a moderate sized collection if pricing was sensible and commensurate with contents.
I also know a few people that buy collections etc, but mostly on the jazz / funk / reggae side.
Agree for the sake of a flip through film the best prices would be achieved by selling to collctors - Friends on here for the better end of the collection. No dealer should be confused with Dr. Bernados - They are there for proffit
