Badoom, tish! He’s here all week folks, try the salmon.
I really like the idea of the DIY option, but am put off by the need for fancy tools such as saws, drills, a tape measure and pencils and shit.
On the plus side, I have a bradawl. Unfortunately, I only recently realised it is not a very small screwdriver.

I too have a bradawl.
It was my Dad’s old broken* one.
When he broke something he had a habit of buying himself a new one and giving me the broken one. Make of that what you will.
(*) “broken” as in “the pointy bit heads off at about 20 degrees to the handle”
My FiL made his own by grinding old broken screwdrivers to a sharp point. I miss him
