Never grows old
Moon and Venus tonight, damn cloud getting in the way! Really need to use the Astrotracer function more and get to grips with it!
Kinda looks like the moon burning up in the atmosphere.
Heading out later to try and see the Quantrantids.
Beanie & gloves required.
X.
Attempt at Jupiter tonight too. Once or twice a year I think about getting into astro photography more but it quite quickly gets spendy and really don’t have much time to be up all night!
Using the built in astro tracer function?
Yep, Pentax K-1. Using a 300mm lens is really getting to the limit of around 10-seconds with it, 28mm you can get away with 3-4 minutes+ from memory.
Its clever, I wouldnt mind a mount, but I hate polar aligning.
It’s a good evening for planet spotters, nice and clear and Mars is coming up in the east, Moon and Jupiter close-together overhead, and Venus and Saturn also close and heading West to set in half an hour or so
Another cracking night for planet-spotters - slightly more spread out, with Venus and Saturn higher and further to the South right now, the Moon and Jupiter a bit further apart, and Mars just rising to the east - and Radio 3 coincidentally working its way thru various takes on Holst’s best-known work!
Would that be the one where everyone’s got coats and scarves on indoors and he rather implies you’d have to be mad to stand outside in the cold and dark peering up into the sky ?
Yesterday- technically- I observed a bright thing above and to the side of the moon. The skies were very clear that night.
A number of people took photos of this.
What was the bright object of interest?
Uranus
You mean this?
(clearly visible to my phone even with London’s light pollution)
I believe it’s Venus (but I know bordering on nothing so may well be wrong).
Venus is showing well again tonight - bright clear skies. It’s the second brightest thing in the night sky after the moon (and the occasional manmade object like the ISS)
