Wegovy has one active ingredient that targets appetite receptors, Mounjaro has two.
In clinical trials, Mounjaro was found to be more effective than Wegovy.
There is a new drug currently undergoing trials which targets three - Retatrutide. Presumably, it will be even more effective than Mounjaro, and will no doubt be priced accordingly!
Just hoping I can manage the period after I’ve lost a decent amount of weight and start reducing the dose or maybe swap to wegovy as a maintenance strategy and then wean myself off.
I remember Chris @thebiglebowski saying how the cravings came back with avengeance when he stopped.
I won’t be eligible because apart from being a fat cunt, I’m apparently quite healthy and don’t have any comorbidities, which I accept is a good thing, apart for my bank balance.
No nasty side effects on the 2.5 ml dose, apart from some mild constipation.
I take my dose on a Sunday morning, and I found the noise was starting to come back around Friday evening so I did have to apply some willpower over the weekend, but I allowed myself a few beers and a bottle of wine, cos I still want to enjoy myself.
The updated design of the Mounjaro KwikPen is already here.
Why is this change being made? The updated design is intended to reduce leftover medicine in the pen and make it easier to confirm that the final dose has been taken. It also addresses a common misconception that the pen contains a 5th “bonus” dose. There is a small amount of liquid remaining after the 4th injection, but this is intentional and isn’t a full dose.
So why is there liquid left over at all? The extra liquid is there to make sure all 4 full doses are available. A small amount is used up each time the pen is primed before injecting, so the extra liquid accounts for this.
I got a 5th dose out of my 1st pen, wonder if my new one has got one.
Anyway, 1.5st in a month, despite last week which included 2 meals out and a few more drinkies than I should have had. Happy with that. It’s bound to level off a bit but as long as it keeps dropping off I’ll be okay with it.
The glass phials for insulin pens have always had more liquid in them than the pen mech will let you extract. In extremis (i.e. if you should bust the pen somewhere so remote that you can’t get an immediate replacement) you can take the phial out and draw up the insulin into a regular syringe the way we all used to 30 years ago. That way you could wring out pretty much every last drop.
I’m guessing the weight loss pens are pre-loaded, so you can’t get the phial out ? Is it glass ? Do they warn you not to drop the pen onto hard surfaces for fear of cracking the phial ?
I imagine there’s a plastic ‘stop’ piece in the mech and the use of force simply snaps that piece off. Running the mech backwards and forwards probably helps clear it completely. All this seems to happen before the threads on the plunger shaft or its drive nut shear. The bore on the phial is very likely uniform so you can get quite an accurate dosing number simply by measuring the travel of the plunger and comparing that with the regular doses. I’d be surprised if a dose error of +/- 10% makes a significant difference in this case (but I’m not a specialist here, so don’t take my word for this).
No need to force/break anything. All pens have a small rubber/plastic bung at the pointy end. The disposable needle capsule you use to inject is double ended, the exposed needle you inject with is also the same needle that pierces the bung and allows the fluid to flow thru from the phial, into your tummy fat.
After the fourth dose is used in the normal way, I just use a disposable sterile insulin syringe to pierce the bung, draw out the remaining fluid and inject (most of) it. In the old style pens, if you’re careful when administering the four doses, the excess left in the tube is 0.8 ml. A single dose is 0.6ml. So, an excess of 1.33 doses.
15mg pens are about £300, so the excess is worth about £100. Unsurprisingly, I’ve not wasted a single drop of that excess. Ok, it means two jabs each week, but no fucking way am I throwing that away so that Lilly can trouser more of my dosh
FWIW, I’ve been on the jabs for 10 months and lost 32kg so far down from 138kg to 106kg.
Not had one of the new pens yet, but there must still be some excess, so as to avoid injecting air. From the info I’ve read, that should be about 0.3 ml. So, still worth keeping as an additional half dose.
