Weird Food Combinations that Work...maybe. (We've moved on from Hot Cross Buns)

Obvious troll.

acacia honey is shit. The best honey I have tasted in recent years, strangely comes from the hives of a hotel in Melton Mowbray.

Jackie brought home a packet of these today. I think they are £1 for 4. The buns are dense and soggy. I toasted one this morning and warmed another in the oven after dinner. Both were consumed with salted Kerrygold butter cold from the fridge. No honey :honey_pot: or cheese :cheese: based perversion occurred at the time the buns were scoffed.

They remain overly dense even when heated and remain quite dense after chewing making the mouthful difficult to swallow. For my tastes there is insufficient spice and the dried fruit is of low quality. The buns are overly sweet and are covered in a sticky glaze that serves only to leave the disappointed bun gobbler with sticky fingers. The M&S 12-pack of Luxury Mini HCBs scoffed last week were much better and were on special at £1.

Short version: better than no HCB at all, but easily bettered. 2/5

Won’t stop me porking down the other two later though. :smiling_imp::smiling_imp:

It is not outside the realms of possibility that a gentleman experiencing lack of flavour in his buns, could mix cinnamon with a little icing sugar and sprinkle over.

Prior to a good hard, hot but ultimately short toasting action.

One word. Caramelized.

The lightest of.

HP, ketchup, or, the ultimate, pesto?

I’m a little aggrieved by the lack of creativity and nuance from gentlemen of this manor who strive for Foo in other quarters.

To this end I am keen to drag Guy and Stu along to this (below) - We will churn our own butter like any self respecting cunts.

Initial impressions before unwrapping;

  1. Can confirm there are indeed x4.
  2. Satisfying weight. There is a bit of gravity in there.
  3. The glaze master did not a light hand have.

Unlike the unnatural freaks considering pairing cheese with HCBs, this notion has some mileage, however the natural partner in these circumstances is surely maple syrup.

Oh yes.

Given that Mrs Cloth (Emma) didn’t toast as per The instructions she was given, this review is moot. :frowning:

The dough was quite hefty, however the abundance of glaze on the tops crisped up quite well. Fucking currants tho. Everywhere.

This and a general lack of aromatics, spices and any fruit that isn’t a current…4/10.

Emma’s performance at the toasting station gets 2/10.
