Cave confessed that he wrote the song inspired by the goings on around a brothel in Brighton from stories like these, but he got the name of the road wrong.
By the time Cave realised his mistake Jubilee Street had been written and ‘Montpelier Road’ didn’t fit the lyrics so Jubilee Street it remained!
