Similarly…

Yep saw it last night, and I pretty much echo your views on it.

This

Recorded it earlier and even though I’ve seen it before, it is pretty good at describing early recording techniques.

That looks very interesting!

Destroyer, a film that held my attention throughout and Nicole Kidman like you haven’t seen before.

A recommended from me.

Oh I like the sound of that. Will check it out.

Just finished The a man in the High Castle.

What a performance by Rufus Sewell!

The Crown. Better than I expected, just watched the one with Prince Philips colourful background and childhood.

War of the Worlds…not sure yet

Ken Burns Country Music doc BBC4 Fridays
Not the biggest fan of the genre, but going off the 1st episodes last Friday you dont have to be.
Researched in minute detail, the BBC versions have been edited down by around half, which may or may not be a good thing as the PBS episodes are 2 hours each.
If Americana is your thang its well worth seeing how it all started.

Nor me either. It’s okay but that twee BBC production style is just simmering under the surface waiting to completely ruin it.

It’s not like the BBC to edit things. :grinning:

I’d rather watch it on PBS to see the full thing - it ludicrous to edit down a painstakingly put together documentary.

Does it portray him in a French maid’s outfit at Cliveden House?

Not yet, but I’ve only seen Ep1

I thought War of the Worlds started well but went a bit flat in ep2. Disappointing.

I can’t think why the world needs another War of the Worlds adaptation.

:pensive:

Absolutely agree. I think it’s a real sign of laziness and a lack of courage from commissioning editors to just knock out another one when there is a lot of great original sci-fi out there waiting to be adapted for TV.

I haven’t read the original book, and it’s a long time since I’ve seen a film of it, but I have to say that apart from the very fetching female lead it’s struggling to keep me interested. There seems to be too much portrayal of individual local drama/misery and not nearly enough getting to grips with WTF is actually going on. I find the switching between the present (or is it the past ?) and the future (or is it the present ?) to be unhelpful too. When it’s been used in other shows I’ve seen it be an effective device for explaining things which would otherwise make no sense until three episodes later. But it doesn’t seem to be doing that here. Or is it just me ?
