That looks pre nap perfect
I really enjoyed it at the cinema. Disengage brain & immerse.
A fine passtime
Dune 2 in IMAX. Pretty spectacular and with enough depth in the storyline to keep it interesting.
Napoleon. What a hopeless load of cack. Fuck sakes Ridley what story were you trying to tell because that was a shambles.
This is coming to Disney+ streaming service this Thurs (7th March)
The incredible tale about the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter
Really looking forward to this. Its up for this years Oscars in 11 categories.
Willem Dafoe & Emma Stone are said to have turned in cracking performances.
Meatmen may be amused in particular at the scene where Stone consumes 60 PastƩis de nata in a single sitting. Apparently this wuz done fer real.
Looks to be an interesting slice of surreal fantasy escapism.
ābadā
I managed 5 minutes
Keep up!
Try Abel Ganceās version. Itās silent and really long so you will need a flask, sandwiches and a piano with player.
Saw it the other night. Great fun.
I need to watch 1492 again, Ridley doing history then in a far more engaging way.
There is a great film to be made about Napoleon but somehow this completely fails to be that film.
Watched Dune 1 again tonight in prep for Dune 2 at the flix tomorrow night.
Yay!
Iāve got the Blu-ray / 4k disc if anyone is not able to get it free on sky or Netflix.
Though postage is about the cost of it on prime?
Weekend viewing (again!) ready for it on the big screen on Tuesday night.
Yes I watched that many years ago (30?) when C4 screened it late one night. Epic doesnāt even begin to describe itās scope and breadth.
Ridley Scottās version needs someone to go all the way back to basics and ask him what story precisely is he trying to tell and then piece together a coherent narrative towards that end.
Some of the scenes by themselves are very poorly thought through and executed, and then as a sequence they just donāt work. Itās kinda film school 101 stuff that Ridley seems to think he hasnāt got to bother with anymore, and clearly no one on the staff or production felt able to point out.
Also totally unconvinced that J Phoenix was the right choice to play Napoleon. His lack of composure also added to the confusing portrayal brought on by the weak screenplay.
In the end its a poorly contrived sequence of acts/ events with little depth to explain not just what is happening but why.
2/10. Cack.
Saw Ganceās Napoleon twice (more footage discovered) at the old Leeds Playhouse. Live piano accompaniment (Simon Lindley?) throughout, with stirring renditions of La Marseillaise at crucial moments. Samosas for sustenance. Much more "immersive " than contemporary blue screen extravaganzas, which I find alienating. Bit like vinyl versus streaming. Leeds was having a bit of a cultural moment in the 80s, as was I.
Went there a few times in my student days, couldnāt tell you what film was playing, I had female company
Priorities.
I just watched it in IMAX, having seen it last week on the 4dx thing. Ultimately 4dx, with moving seats, water, aroma etc, was mostly distracting, although I did like the seats in some of the action scenes. Still, it kept the daughter entertained. IMAX, however, was fucking epic. The bass is entirely monstrous.
And I think that the film is a masterpiece, even better than the first. The characters are so fleshed out - seems that getting a great cast actually helps, who knew? Javier Bardem as Stilgar makes a great transition from a dryly witty dude to a religious fanatic. Rebecca Ferguson from rebel Bene Gesserit in love to manipulative monster. Timothy Chalametās Paul was also well done, as were both Harkonnens. Florence Pugh rather stole the show from the Emperor though.
I really think that Villeneuve did brilliantly to keep to the plot but improve the characters, giving them real motivations and making them believable. These complexities werenāt in the book, as I remember, and it is all the better for it. Bring on Dune Messiah!
