Nick, it’s that good.
Approaching the end of my nostalgia-watch of the Logan’s Run series. Almost universally terrible in all respects but interesting enough and of its time. In episode 12 of 14, they stumble on a haunted house in a storm. The scriptwriters were phoning it in by then. Post-apocalyptic Scooby Doo meets Darkplace Hospital vibes.
I loved that series as a kid but yeah its a challenging rewatch as an adult.
Exceptional 9.5/10

Nothing like I expected but a great film, all the same.
Four episodes into this. Totally compelling, and in no way conforming to any standard post-apocalyptic clichés. Really well acted and unusual. Highly original, in a well saturated genre.
Edit: on reflection, I guess it can’t really avoid a degree of cliché because the whole post-apocalyptic thing is at this stage fundamentally clichéd, but still it’s very original despite that.
Had this in my queue to watch since forever
I only came across it a couple of days ago, but very glad I did. I’m not sure why I’m fascinated by these kinds of scenarios, but I really am.
Just finished it last night. I highly recommend it! Really really good.
Where did you watch it?
On bluray, borrowed from my brother.
It’s brilliant.
Enjoyed this, good action film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and has some good humour
War Machine.
It’s got all the things. On balance it’s an acceptable weekend workout for the nerves.
At times cheap, at times cheesy, but sometimes it’s a nail bite ride.
Yeeeeee ha.
They somehow managed to make a film with literally no new ideas in it.
Welcome to the weekend noggin workout.
It just has to tip into 51% for me sometimes.
I can’t manage anything that dips into execrable (49 and under). It’s a fine balance and I usually know after about 15 minutes.
3 films of note.
Wuthering Heights
Shallow, Mills & Boon level adaptation of what is a very good story about class & to some extent race. Miscast too. I like watching Margot Robbie as much as anyone but she shouldn’t be playing a character who’s supposed to be teenager. Don’t bother.
Marty Supreme
Entertaining (albeit too long) tale loosely based on the true story of a US pro table tennis player. Timothy Chalamet channels Groucho Marx in some respects portraying this morally dubious individual but it whips along and is enjoyable. Well worth a look.
Crime 101
Very good crime thriller with Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Chris Hemsworth & Barry Keoghan all excelling in a tight, great looking film. While it may not quite be a Heat or Bullitt it’s a really gripping watch & strongly recommended.
