3rd tasting of this, nice enough, quite subtle on nose with the peat/smoke but does not go much further.
Not the best value at ~£39 for a 50cl bottle but not silly money. Interesting to try something a bit different though. I don’t get much juniper on the nose or palate but then other than in Gin, I’m not sure I’ve ever had it in isolation…
Anyone tried something from Kyro before?
Interested in the rye
their rye gin is good
Oooo interesting, never had rye in gin
you don’t have rye in gin.
Rye is the grain the base spirit (vodka essentially) has been distilled from. Distill with right botanicals and you get gin. I doubt Rye is a botanical, although it could be
Assuming they are re using the top then, does the rye come through? Because most being made from gin with grain neutral spirit, I assumed it was pointless adding a grain specific alcohol at the start
yes there is a hint on the palate. Lots made from grain specific alcohol. Quite alot made from potato spirit as well
What did you think of it ?
I really enjoyed mine, dissapeared in a jiffy (admittedly at Christmas)
Did anyone get one of these?
A wee drop of this tonight. First independent bottling in my collection, which was a present from a good friend. Very enjoyable.
The 18 year old is my all time favourite whisky, and the first one I ever had that I liked. So much more subtle than Laphroaigs or Ardbegs.
Cheers Josh, I’ll have a look at that also.
So is a clown car with neon headlights.
Also, it’s still reasonably priced, at about £80 (compared to many others of that ilk that have increased astronomically - e.g. Laphroaig 18 year old which is also v nice, and was the same price about 5 years ago and is now about £300… And the Ardbeg Supernova, was about £120 (ok still expensive) but now about £400+…
Yep, the Caol Ila 18 is a favourite!
