This might still be good.
Heco isnât available locally.
We have Richer Sounds, Audio T and Sevenoaks, and the likes of Currys, J Lewis etc.
Iâm going in circles at the moment. The Naim was appealing but a few reviews mentioned it could sound a bit thin which wouldnât suit us.
Just had a look at the RS website. Loads of options to look at.
eg JBL Charge Essential 2 usually ÂŁ139, VIP member ÂŁ79
For the type of thing youâre looking for I donât think you can go wrong with RS
Iâm going to pay a visit to RS, if I get time later.
Anyone used the Apple offering? Has favourable reviews and weâre already in the Apple eco
For simplicity, Iâd suggest something with Spotify Connect rather than Bluetooth but that still means dozens of options. Harman, JBL and Bluesound are all good. I gave THIS ONE an award this year for AVF and my Mrs adores it. it works on mains and battery, itâs built like a lorry (all JBL stuff is) and it sounds decent. That Black Friday adjacent price is a good one too.
Very sorry to hear about your wife.
Iâm a happy Spotify + Sonos Era 100 user. Thatâs what we use in the kitchen. Personally I never noticed the issues with the app - I only ever used it to set up the system and from then just played music via Spotify or YouTube. I believe they have now fixed a number of the issues but Iâd suggest unless youâre going to be power using the app, youâre unlikely to have any problems.
SQ with the Sonos unit is good - the app will let you fine tune to the room space.
Also found it pretty straightforward to set up.
Sorry to hear of the cause for requiring these.
Sonos Ones in a stereo pair is hard to beat.
Not the cheapest though.
The app changes never really affected us that much.
We use the app for programs rather than radio channels that can be voice controlled.
Spotify (voice and app control) or Qobuz is fine through the app as are many overseas radio stations.
We use Swedish Radio daily.
Possibly to set up lots of skills and routines via Amazon too.
The Sonos one isnât available now, superseded by the Evo.
Iâm leaning that way as the simplicity looks good.
Still tempted with the home pod from Apple.
Sonos used to be rock solid and very simple.
About 6 months ago the CEO pushed through a complete rewrite of the app way too early because he wanted to release the new Sonos headphones that were only supported by the new version of the app.
The whole thing was an absolute disaster - whole swathes of essential functionality disappeared overnight. He eventually pivoted from âhey, itâs still greatâ to âman, I really have dropped a bollock on this oneâ and to give them their due theyâve patched it up quite well.
Still missing is a lot of the (now) niche functionality if youâre running a local library as opposed to using a streaming service. This is annoying for people like me, but the streaming experience with e.g. Qobuz is now absolutely fine.
If, like @josh youâre using a streaming service to push to Sonos boxes e.g. using the Spotify app and selecting an output device, then you probably wouldnât have noticed. The problems were only ever there when you were using the Sonos app to pull from sources.
This is probably way more detail than you need, just hoping you can get something quickly but with your eyes open.
If youâve got a bluelight card they normally have a 20% off code available for Sonos.
Good shout
