Putin’s ambition is to restore the USSR, an empire which specialised in tedium driven home by awful grinding toil. I was going to say it must be dispiriting to find yourself fighting people who have some imagination. But ‘dispiriting’ assumes you have some spirit to begin with.

Reading comments-sections is equivalent to smearing yourself in faeces.

That’s it.

There’s no punchline.

Apparently Iran has presented its counter proposal to the US’ nuclear deal, which consists of something along the line of, ‘Let us continue to enrich, and you go destroy Israel’s nuclear arsenal, and we’ll reduce cooperation with the IAEA.’

Wonder if they have a nuke hidden somewhere, or maybe are very confident in the impenetrability of their underground facilities.

I think we’d have heard about it, one way or another, if they’d tested one of their own. It would be harder to know for sure if they’d acquired an already type-tested one from, say, N Korea or even (I suppose) Pakistan. A relatively crude device might have been built without testing, but then how can you be sure it’ll work if you should ever need it ? Of course if all you want to do is scare your neighbours then maybe it doesn’t matter how reliable the thing actually is ?

In order to scare your neighbours they would need to know it was there and then we(sterners) would know it was there too, Shirley ?

Or maybe just fear (plausibly) that it was there ?

I don’t know if they could say openly that they have one, without bringing everyone (i.e. Europe and other ME countries) out against them.

I don’t think they do have one, but it seems an odd move to essentially give an ‘F-you’ response to someone who probably won’t stop Israel from attacking for too much longer.

 can’t see it.

A ‘symbolic’ aid yacht on its way to Gaza, in defiance of the Israeli naval blockade, was captured by Israeli forces and towed to an Israeli port.

On board were citizens of Brazil, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Turkey, among them Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament, Omar Faiad, a French journalist with Al Jazeera, and Greta Thunberg.

Israel have dismissed it as a “selfie yacht.”

One of America’s most secretive military aircraft, the E-4B Nightwatch, aka the “doomsday plane” and “the Flying Pentagon” is a mobile command post for the President, Secretary of Defense, and Joint Chiefs of Staff during national emergencies, including nuclear war. It has made an unexpected flight to Joint Base Andrews near Washington, DC, on the night of June 17 leaving Bossier City, Louisiana just before 6 pm and landing in Maryland around 10 pm.

The E-4B is a Boeing 747-200, modified to act as the National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC), and regularly flies to stay ready, but this flight attracted attention because of its unusual route, curving along the eastern coast and looping over Virginia and North Carolina, and timing. It coincides with US warnings to Iran and signs of possible escalation. It also used callsign ORDER01 suggesting this was no ordinary training sortie, instead of the usual ORDER6 leading to speculation that this may have been more than a routine training or relocation flight.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned of “irreparable damage” if the US joins the conflict Iran/Israel conflict.

The timing of this flight, combined with recent developments, suggests a possible link to the Israel-Iran confrontation.

The US government has not confirmed the purpose of the E-4B’s flight, but defense analysts note that such deployments are standard practice during periods of heightened alert.
