WTD: Main Counterweight for SME 3012 series 2

I’m looking for a main counterweight for an early split weight SME 3012 series 2.

I have the heavy counterweight which is fine for my SPU but I’d like to also have the regular size counterweight.

It’s the matt silver finish like this that I’m looking for.

I know it’s a long shot but hopefully one of you can help.

Thank you.

Bumping this in the hope of finding an original SME s2 80g 25mm counterweight.

Have you seen this? seems expensive but I have no clue about old SME values

The Heavier weight is consistantly £120+ so it might be worth getting and selling it in the box to recoup?

Thanks Chris. I did see it and am watching closely. I don’t really know the going rates for these things but the dealer that offered me the 60g weight was asking £75. Also someone on ebay is selling a NOS 110g heavy weight for £200 which does seem excessive. So on balance £180 for the two weights is not ridiculous.

Keeping things original is often worth it, particularly if you can recoup the lions share of the initial expense?

Funny the seller decided the best place to photo it was on top of the toilet cistern. Perhaps he is taking the piss with his pricing.

Think with a vintage arm like yours,I’d always try and get original parts.
Also it probably wouldn’t be a massive difference in price for someone to make it and get it blasted to look similar to rest of the weights.

I think you’re right. I am keen to keep it original even if I have to pay a premium.

Thanks for the info on how much I can hope to recoup by selling the heavy weight. That’s very helpful.

Just seen it’s an auction. Thought it was a bin

If you sell the SPU larger weight with the box £150 isn’t too mad a price to start

It’s funny really but usually the issue is the other way round - Trying to find the SPU weight !

Good to know. I imagine that means that a boxed heavy counterweight should sell quickly. Unless something turns up before Wednesday, I’ve decided that I am going to snipe on the ebay lot that Chris linked to upthread.
