I do like that. Can’t imagine having only one tuner tho’ - I always have to have a back-up, albeit nothing of that quality.
Decent YouTube (720p option) added showing how smooth it tracks and instantly locks into a rock stable signal
Always wanted a TU-X1.
I had one and a second spares for repair Guy…Fabulous sounding thing however took up considerably more space…The 9900 was subjectively 80% fidelity wise however after a couple of Mod’s and componant upgrades I was happy at 90% and kept the 9900
Dug out some images of my now gone Sansui TU-X1
some of the modifications to this tuner:
- replaced all power supply caps by higher value better quality caps
- replaced all 8 (noisy) DC power supply diodes with FRED diodes
- replaced signal path coupling caps by Jantzen Superior Z-Caps
- replaced all internal point-to-point wiring by high quality audio grade silver/copper solid core cable
- replaced all lampwire internal power cabling by high quality audio grade power cable
- replaced two-wire lampwire external power cable by earthed Furutech IEC socket
- isolated the power transformer
- isolated and filtered grounding noise
- replaced RCA sockets by heavily silver plated sockets
- reworked the antenna connections for best performance, removing 300 balanced connection and optimising the 75 circuit
- checked and, where appropriate, replaced filters, resistors, etc.
- replaced variable output circuitry by audibly superior fixed output connections
- separated AM and FM outputs so each is completely independent of the other
- cleaned power supply board
- cleaned FM board and lubricated FM tuning mechanism
- aligned 7-gang FM tuner
- cleaned AM board and lubricated AM tuning mechanism
- aligned 3-gang AM tuner
- additionally I have replaced the chassis cover and base with excellent condition ones (see photos)
Damned if I’d have let it go after all that faff!
The journey is the destination!
Sounds like triggers broom… nice toy though
Fucker’s causing me to browse through vintage tuners…
Which is the obvious thing to do when you’ve got no working hifi…*
(* that you want to listen to)
Yep, another favourite thing to do on the bay if only for the laughs on pricing (NAT03 for 870 of your quids, sir? 250 quid for a Technics 8080 like mine where an unfooed version puts the audio signal through a 4558 ?)
Can you get one with a clock on it too?
It’s usually the bit that makes the tea which is the hardest to keep working properly.

What is the latest on the FM switch off?
It’ll all be gone by 2005
I remember picking up a lovely Rotel RT-990BX at that kind of time for absolute peanuts.
Still sounded shit using any indoor aerial I could find in my London flat, so I rapidly moved on to internet radio for my Radio 3 needs…
In July 2020, provided the stations also broadcast on digital radio, UK government has decided to allow Ofcom to renew analogue FM and AM licences for a further ten-year period
I used to own a Sansui G-401 years ago.
Nothing as posh as that though.
2 or 3?
Sorry!
