This is what I think comes across most, along with a sense of belonging in the community and these two things have undoubtedly helped build the shop.
I love to see the right people in the right job. Passion is attractive and often infectious. I imagine a very high % of the reason people buy into hifi or records is pleasure (this covers a lot of ground, aesthetics, quality of sound, interest, history, touch, ritual, intellectual - every level but service is also part of it) These guys come over well, it’s great to see films like these being done

My daughter told me about this place only yesterday. Looks worth a visit.
Yes I’ve never been nor had any dealings with them but I admire what they appear to be doing.

That’d be a faff to get through the door at Scalford. I suppose we could leave it outside and if it rains hold the weekend inside it.
I can’t see an obvious turntable, so I guess it’s ‘just’ a radio with a PA facility.

I finally managed to get an hour at this exhibition yesterday
and among the exhibits is a notebook recording pre-war interviews with people living in Bristol’s then very working-class (borderline ‘deprived’) Barton Hill area. One woman tells the interviewer how her husband is nastily dictatorial about the wireless. It’s switched on and off when he wants and is tuned to what he wants to listen to. She is forbidden from touching it. She tries to use it when he’s out but finds that he’s deliberately disabled it. The last line in the notebook entry just says “She has left him now”.
