Yet another opportunity to spend someone else's money on hifi tat

No he’s sentimentally attached to it but reckons he’s spending more than it’s worth having it fixed and serviced, but we didn’t get into what was wrong with it, and why he thinks it won’t remain in good working order.

So he wants to keep it.

TBH if it’s not that easy to improve upon it at his budget or just over then he has a fairly straightforward choice between spending more to replace it or keeping it and buying himself a better cartridge (which was my suggestion straight off the bat).

Other than the motor, there isn’t that much to go wrong, he should still get around 3-400 for arm, platter, bearing, plinth and dust cover if he can be arsed to split it and put it on ebay.

Didn’t read he wants to keep it first time

So by way of update, I asked him why he was considering moving his Linn Axis on. Apparently he’s experiencing some start up speed issues which might be down to the well known PSU issues that come with the Axis.

The obvious thing to do would seem to be to get his PSU looked at or buy a refurb/ replacement, and then spend the money saved from a new deck on a cartridge.

Anyone know a Linn specialist capable of this kind of work near Nantwich?

The speakers he definitely would like to replace with something smaller and ‘not black’. I suggested he have a listen to a pair of Scansonic MK5s which come in white gloss that might not offend SWMBO etc. Other options/ ideas that might fit the bill welcome.

I hope you told him this was the wrong answer.

Doug Brady in Warrington might be worth a shout.

I’d agree with giving Doug Brady a call.

Something smaller - pair of Sonos Ones in stereo pair and set up a command to Alexa, "play my Linn":slightly_smiling_face:

I had less than happy experiences with my LP12 at Doug Brady. I used House of Linn in Manchester in preference who are very good but might try to sell something new rather than do a repair. If it were my Axis I might start by giving Class A in Sheffield a buzz about a full service.

Class A were great for the fix on my Valhalla.
